The counter had become dated, and they were ready for an update.

First, we removed the existing tile and repaired the drywall and texture.  Next, we replaced the wood cut out form the old sink.  The new sink is a surface mounted bowl, and will only need a two-inch hole in the counter for mounting.

Once the wood was in place, we installed Hardibacker and sealed it with Redgard vapor barrier.

After the vapor barrier cured, the counter was ready for tile.  The Fosters chose a beautiful sandstone tile with an accent tile which was inlaid with stainless steel rings.

The bathroom turned out with a great new look that should last for years to come.

She had recently purchased a house, and one of the bedrooms had carpet which had faded from the sun.

I was hired to install new carpet in the sunny bedroom. It went in without a hitch and the room looks great.

First, their master toilet was running. Changing the flapper solved the problem. I also tightened the tank onto the bowl to stop water from leaking onto the floor when they flushed.

After the toilet came the carpet. It had been in for a number of years. Over time it had loosened by wear, leaving a few waves in the middle of the vanity area. The solution was to stretch the carpet, trimming the edges as needed. I seamed it at the doorway and tucked all of the edges in for a clean look.

There were two table lamps with three way bulbs that were not working properly. I replaced the sockets and they were as good as new.

The smoke detectors had malfunctioned, setting them off in the middle of the night. The firemen had disconnected them and left. When I tested them they were ok. Perhaps a power surge set them off with the burglar alarm.

The door from the garage to the house no longer closed by itself. This is important for the containment of possible fire. I replaced the self closing hinges and the problem was solved.

In the back yard there was a window with a piece of trim that had come loose. After fixing the window I removed some debris and the job was done.

The Warrens and I first met early this year.  Mrs. Warren spotted my phone number on my work truck at JJ’s Market on the mesa.
Their first list had a few small items like changing the light bulbs in two high chandeliers. I also cleaned the filters to their furnace and a few other miscellaneous items.
After a few months, there was some small plumbing to be done. The kitchen faucet was loose and the garbage disposal needed to be replaced.

The next project they needed done was grab bars in the master shower and tub area.

Most recently, the skylights in the warehouse, which is just out of view to the left in the top picture, had become so covered with moss and lichen that the light was no longer getting in very well. I went up and cleaned the skylights and the gutters. They are ready for rain, but until then let the sun in

The Hillary’s wanted to remove the fluorescent lights in the kitchen and replace them with recessed lighting. They also wanted to raise the height of the kitchen ceiling by six inches to give it a more spacious feel.

I began by removing the lights, existing drywall and rafters of the kitchen ceiling. Next, I used a drywall jack to hold the drywall to the ceiling while I screwed it in.

With the drywall installed and taped, I laid out the lighting and cut the holes for the cans. After the holes were cut, I ran the wiring and installed the lights.

The next step was to texture the ceiling to match the rest of the house. After the texture dried it was time for primer and a matching ceiling paint.

After the kitchen was complete Richard asked if I would be willing to wash their terracotta tile roof and do some repairs as needed.
The roof cleaned up nicely, and while I was at it, I cleaned the gutters and sidewalks as needed.

In the end they were happy, which led to three other roofs in the neighborhood.

The goal in the kitchen was to remove the fluorescent light fixtures from the ceiling, install two tubular skylights and nine recessed lights. The challenge was to fit the tubes for the skylight, the recessed light cans, the wiring and the plumbing for the kitchen all in a small attic space. It was a tight fit, but it all came together for a seamless finish.

The ceiling needed some drywall finishing where the fluorescent light frame was attached to the ceiling.

After the drywall repair came texture, primer and paint.

The result is a bright kitchen space that was somewhat cave like and dark before.

The other thing that the Maruyamas wanted in their kitchen was to remove their trash compactor and replace it with a trash drawer. This would have been very easy had they not installed the trash compactor before the tile floor. As it was, I was able to disassemble/cut the compactor out.

I matched the whitewash stain and finish for the new cabinet door, and installed a two can trash drawer.

This house is on a hill with a short but steep concrete driveway. Over time and with rain the driveway had developed cracks. As water ran down the driveway, it entered the cracks and began eroding the soil under the slab.

One solution for this problem is to remove the driveway and replace it with new. This seemed a bigger undertaking than they wanted.

The solution they chose was to open the cracks just a bit with a diamond saw blade and inject polyurethane into the cracks. Polyurethane is very tough and with a good bond it will stop erosion of the slab without negatively affecting the appearance further.

After the roof is clean, I repair or replace any broken tiles and paint the roof metal to match.

I also clean out the gutters and drainage system.

The owners were also ready for a color change for the room and cabinets. They did not like the gold finish of the fixtures or the water damaged mirror wich runs the length of the vanity.

The first step in this project was to install an exhaust fan and heat lamp in the ceiling.

Next I cut a hole in the drywall behind the tub. I crawled through the hole to change the tub spout.

I patched the access hole and the areas where the water had damaged the drywall.

The ceiling color was 1/2 of the wall color. The cabinets were an accent color.

To address the water damage at the base of the mirror and to change the color of the metal mirror support I used a special primer to bond to the glass. Once primed, I painted the metal and the bottom of the mirror silver. I also painted the two light fixtures silver to match.

With the painting complete I replaced the bathroom sinks and faucets for a new finish.

The last job before replacing the hardware was to grout and seal the shower and glass block walls.
